Reporting to the Project Commercial lead or Regional Commercial Manager, as a Quantity Surveyor you will be tasked with ensuring the commercial delivery of your allocated project, ensuring that we meet our contractual obligations and that all commercial aspects are carefully tracked and managed. Excellent organisational and time management skills are required in addition to having sound contractual knowledge and financial acumen. You will also be highly adept in writing and delivering reports.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of the Quantity Surveyor include, but are not limited to:

• Ensuring the responsibilities identified to you in the Company Health and Safety Policy Part 2 are conducted in accordance with the Company Management System (CMS)
• Discharging the key commercial responsibilities required by the project and role
• Being a positive role model for how we should all live the company’s vision and values
• Delivery of project objectives compatible with the regional strategies, objectives and budgets
• Working independently in the lead role commercially on a specific project or as part of the commercial team on a larger or more complex project with the responsibility as defined by the commercial lead or the RCM responsible for the project
• An understanding and ability to manage and control the commercial aspects of a project

Key Accountabilities:

Ability to carry out and complete the full range of commercial activities necessary for pre- and post-construction including;
• Minimise risk, maximise opportunity, minimise cost and maximise value
• Work within a team and provide support to the commercial lead and/or Regional Commercial Manager
• Accountability for specific project or section
• Subcontract procurement from preparation of tender enquiry through to order placement
• Subcontract commercial management from order through to final account
• Administration of contract commercial requirements including valuation, final account, change management, variation and compensation event evaluation
• Good understanding of the contract, preparation of notifications and loss and expense
• Ensure good practice and compliance with all contractual requirements
• Liaison with the employer or employer’s financial representative
• Accurate cost checking and cost management including the cost checking and analysis of labour, plant and materials
• Timeous and accurate cost value reconciliation reporting and forecasting, on individual project or section to a high level of accuracy
• Cash flow forecasting and interpretation
• Ensuring the correct preparation, collection and collation of contemporary records
• Deliver the project/section to meet the needs of the Project Commercial Plan, Region’s Business Objectives and Business Plan


• Experienced quantity surveyor with strong commercial background with a focus on profit and cash. Experience as a commercial lead or in a senior position within a commercial team.
• Broad experience in both building and/or civil engineering in a variety of sectors and various contract values. Commercial lead or a senior position within a commercial team.
• A good collaborator and communicator able to quickly build effective relationships internally and externally. A true team player with high attention to detail.
• Clear thinking on business priorities and able to deal with a significant volume of many and varied business issues in a timely and effective manner.
• Good communicator, with the ability to manage a team.
• Sound commercial knowledge of the construction industry.
• A good knowledge of procurement and project management relating to construction projects.
