We are looking for an exceptional Section Engineer for the Victoria Square project in Woking. Candidates must have experience of working for a Tier 1 contractor.

A member of the project team, reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, coordination and management of work sections including a number of subcontractors employed in a variety of trades. The role requires a high level of interfacing between internal departments and external agencies, such as architects, engineers, construction workers, subcontractors, client agents, clerk of works and site staff.

Typical sections of work could include:

• Individual blocks/buildings
• Floors
• Work areas
• Phases
• Work stream

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

Please note that the responsibilities and accountabilities can vary or change from time to time based on business/project requirements. Responsibilities of the Section Engineer include, but are not limited to:

• Working with commercial staff to write the scope of works for each package within the section of works for which he/she is responsible
• Collective coordination and management of subcontractors for each area/section of work
• Ensure the company’s obligations to subcontractors are understood and discharged
• Organise and lead regular site progress meetings with other Section Engineers and Package Engineers to monitor progress, quality and safety, ensuring the Chief Engineer and Project Manager/Project Director are updated on all issues
• Managing the technical aspects of the on and off-site works
• Set priorities for Package Engineers in their sections/areas of work
• Be the principal point of contact responsible for all operations related to a section of work including collective coordination between packages
• Review package tender information produced by the Design Team and comment where appropriate. Act as construction coordinator between different packages within sections of work
• Ensure that the subcontractors are working to the latest design information and provide technical advice and support where required
• Review interfaces with adjacent activities and ensure that they are properly coordinated and communicated
• Lead a construction coordination meeting for the section of work with package engineers
• Attend or seek feedback from the daily activity briefing and weekly subcontractor coordination meetings to ensure that areas under their responsibility are kept on programme
• Monitor progress against the weekly programmes on a daily basis
• Produce and maintain short-term look-ahead programmes for each area/section of work
• Ensure subcontractors meet their requirements with respect to programme, quality, safety, and sustainability issues
• Review and approve (as and when authorised) risk assessments, method statements and Inspection & Test Plans (I&TP)
• Monitor the implementation of the method statements and I&TPs
• Carry out and record surveillances and inspections for area/section of work
• Coordinate and manage design information
• Ensure that all subcontractors are working to the latest design information and provide technical support when required
• Scope and discuss Temporary Works with Chief Engineer
• Check compliance with client brief and Sir Robert McAlpine contractor’s obligations
• Check workmanship and materials for compliance with construction issue drawings and specifications
• Compile Company Management System (CMS) records
• Ensure that subcontractors’ records are compiled, processed and completed

Job Skills & Knowledge (essential)

• Minimum 3-7 years’ work experience within the construction industry
• Proven working experience in package and section management
• Knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards
• A good practical understanding of Health & Safety requirements
• A good understanding of all facets of the construction process
• Familiarity with construction software packages
• Ability to coordinate and control all packages within their section of work
• Ability to prioritise, plan, schedule and evaluate works
• Ability to prepare a three week look-ahead programme with assistance of project planner
Ability to manage conflict through conflict resolution
