We are looking for exceptional Senior Quantity Surveyors for exciting projects based in Woking, Croydon, Luton, Watford and Oxford. Candidates must have experience of working for a Tier 1 contractor.

A senior member of the project team as well as the Region and reporting to the Project Manager and/or the Regional Commercial Manager, the Senior Quantity Surveyor will take on a range of commercial responsibilities including measurement, contract administration, record keeping, and maintaining key schedules for both information and procurement.

The successful candidate will support the timely delivery of the project’s commercial functions throughout both pre-construction and construction phases. This includes preparation of internal and external valuations, final accounts, Cost Value Reconciliations, change management and the valuation of variations, cash collection along with input into the risk and opportunity registers.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Ensuring the responsibilities identified in the Company Health and Safety Policy Part 2 are conducted in accordance with the Company Management System (CMS)
• Discharging the key commercial responsibilities required by the project and role
• Managing and controlling the commercial aspects of individual projects
• Being a positive role model for how we should all live the company’s vision and values
• Supporting the business’s exemplary approach to health, safety and sustainability
• Providing a clear and compelling vision of the region’s business and its direction so as to inspire our people to deliver exceptional results and achieve their full potential
• Minimising project costs and enhancing value for money while still achieving required standards of quality
• Ensuring appropriate governance and risk management is implemented throughout the project
• Representing the business externally so as to enhance the company’s reputation, standing and brand
• Providing necessary estimates and cost reports throughout project tender period
• Seeking and engaging with the supply chain to provide best possible compliant tender prices
• Leading the project commercial function to minimise risk, maximise opportunity, manage change, cash flow and accurate project reporting
• Managing and controlling all commercial aspects of projects you are responsible for
• Monitoring subcontractors’ progress against programme
• Compiling monthly cost/value reports, forecasts and cash flow projections
• Preparing and negotiating interim valuations, final costs and subcontract claims
• Measurement of building and civil engineering works

Skills & knowledge

• Experience as a recognised QS with strong commercial awareness and a focus on profit and cash.
• Broad construction and civil engineering industry experience covering many and various sectors and markets in commercial positions with industry leading contracting organisations
• Clear thinking and able to deal with a significant volume of many and varied business issues in a timely and effective manner
• Able to assimilate a breadth of internal and external data and apply sound judgement regarding the strategic direction of the business
• Sound commercial knowledge of the construction industry.
• Able to develop and monitor efficient and effective processes and policies in support of the business objectives and strategy
