The school’s range of sustainable features includes a biomass boiler, sedum roofs, solar panels and rainwater harvesting to provide water for use in lavatories. A swale drainage channel surrounding the site collects run-off water and directs it to a nearby wetland area. Teaching staff will utilise the scientific and technological aspects of these features in the curriculum.

“The building of a new school is a liberating and exciting experience; it is also stressful, time demanding and will cause you sleepless nights! However, our relationship with Sir Robert McAlpine has alleviated a lot of the tensions because of the clarity of their communication and their effective planning. The whole company has been well organised and thorough from the first dreams to the finished product – which looks stunning.” - David Alexander, headteacher of Rednock School

Rednock School was named winner of the RIBA South West Town and Country Sustainability Award and the People’s Choice Award in 2010. The school was also honoured with a RIBA Award for architectural excellence.

Rednock won the School Building Award at the 2010 Education Business Awards. The awards honour schools and projects which deliver improved learning environments.

The school won a Silver Award at the Considerate Constructors Scheme National Site Awards 2011.
